The Ancestry of Ian Lyall and Margaret Bell [his spouse]

I inherited some genealogical date from a cousin of my father-Beatrix Tudor Hall ca 1950. I took up the hunt with internet access some years ago, and wanting to follow up the 'Tudor' lead, being a common middle name of my side of the family. Hoping to find royal blood I got nowhere.
Eventually and fortuitously I followed up an ancestral lead on my paternal grandfather's side.
Suspicious that it was going back before 1500, I eventually found I was directly descended from Alfred the Great, then Charlemagne and Atilla the Hun.
Leads on my wife's side took me back into 16th Century Switzerland, and on one of my sons-in-law to Germany; a family which then emigrated to Ameica.
Last but not least I followed up the fact that 'en route' to Alfred the Great there was a Lyon family. The late Queen Mother was Bowes-Lyon, and following up her ancestry found the paths joined.
